Mike Smith is an artist whose talents are seen in his ability to paint or draw facial features that capture the spirit of each of his subjects.  An example of this technique is found in the drawing of Dragging Canoe where he has caught both the strength and the sadness of a great Cherokee War Chief.  

Pastels of his children demonstrate his ability to capture the essence of expression and the depth and distinctiveness of character of each of his subjects.  Oil painting of scenes, portraits in oils or pastels and pen and ink drawings also show his creative abilities in various artistic mediums.
