The Leadership Oak Ridge program consists of 13 half-day sessions and 2 overnight trips. 80% attendance is required for graduation. Attendance is required for the opening retreat. Applicant's organization must commit to this time allotment should applicant be selected for the program. Tuition is $595 per participant and is non-refundable.

Information about Leadership Oak Ridge Class Activities

Dates:

First session is an overnight

An overnight in Nashville is included
Graduation is an evening dinner event

Overnight Retreat; Leadership Introduction and Local Government; Anderson County Government; Economic & Industrial Development; Nashville Trip (State Government): Education in Oak Ridge; DOE Contractor Day; An Evening with the Arts; Social Services & Quality of Life; Housing & Tourism; The Oak Ridge Image & Regional Leadership; Graduation Dinner

Tuition:

$595 covers all activities for each participant. Limited financial assistance may be possible. Participants selected for the Leadership program will be notified. Tuition must be paid prior to the beginning of the class and there will be no refunds after that date.

What is Leadership Oak Ridge?

Leadership of the highest caliber is critical to the future of Oak Ridge.

Leadership Oak Ridge is a program designed to meet the need for a diverse network of leaders throughout the city by developing a broad understanding of the community's needs.

Previous experience in Oak Ridge and other cities has shown that this unique program has an immediate and positive effect on the participants, their organizations, and their community.

Leadership Oak Ridge serves as a forum for overall training in community responsibility. It is a program designed to develop and expand the leadership potential existing in the community by:

Identifying current and emerging leaders from all areas of community life
Developing a broad knowledge and clear understanding of the community
Developing the skills necessary for assuming effective leadership roles in the community
Identifying opportunities for participation in community activities to effect positive change
Challenging participants to seek innovative approaches to the issues facing the community

How Does the Program Work?

Leadership Oak Ridge provides participants with thirteen sessions of comprehensive learning.

Eleven Tuesday Seminars

Every week from 12:30 to 5:00 pm (unless stated otherwise)
Presentations and discussions with leaders from organizations and institutions within the area

Two Overnight Trips

An overnight retreat at a resort
Nashville Tour and meetings with State political leaders

Reception

An evening with previous Leadership Oak Ridge participants

Graduation

Dinner and program

Class Project

Each class completes a project designed to benefit the Oak Ridge community

What are the Benefits of Participation?

Leadership Oak Ridge provides an intensive opportunity to learn about Oak Ridge companies, government, economic development, education, housing, the arts and more
State government, local officials and key industry executives are all part of the Leadership Oak Ridge network
Contacts remain viable for years and are often used to make significant progress within local Oak Ridge industry
Subcontractors can meet DOE and prime contractor contacts
Representatives from not-for-profit agencies and services groups will gain access to resources
East Regional Leadership is a regional program open to graduates of Leadership Oak Ridge. This regional group greatly expands the networking opportunities for companies in Oak Ridge.
Recently relocated executives are quickly acclimated and exposed to the opportunities available in the area
Leadership Oak Ridge is worth far more to the individuals who attend than the cost of the program. They learn leadership skills while immersing themselves in the Oak Ridge and East Tennessee network of growing industries and progressive thinking officials.

Who Can Participate?

Candidates may be nominated and sponsored by area businesses, organizations and individuals. Class size is limited to 40 participants. Selection of participants will be made based on the following criteria:

Demonstrated commitment in serving the Oak Ridge community
Interest in seeking public office or position, or volunteer leadership roles
Current or potential leadership opportunities within their organizations
Commitment to attending the sessions. At least 11 of the 13 sessions must be completed in order to graduate.

Tuition covers all activities for each participant. Limited financial assistance may be possible.
